The much-anticipated Malayalam spy action drama Patriot, starring Mammootty and Mohanlal, has officially received a new theatrical release date. After being postponed from its earlier April schedule, the film is now set to hit cinemas worldwide on May 1, 2026, raising excitement among fans eager to see the legendary duo reunite on screen.
Patriot New Release Date Announced
The makers of Patriot confirmed that the film will now release globally on May 1, 2026. Mammootty shared the update on social media, announcing the revised date and building anticipation for the high-profile project.
Initially slated for an April 23, 2026 release, the film faced an unexpected delay. Producer Anto Joseph had earlier revealed that the postponement was due to unforeseen circumstances. Reports suggested that issues with the exhibitors’ union in Kerala may have contributed to the delay, although no official reason was confirmed.
A Power-Packed Spy Action Drama
Patriot is described as a gripping spy action drama centered around a controversial intelligence mission. The film stands out not only for its intense storyline but also for bringing together two of Malayalam cinema’s biggest icons after nearly a decade.
Alongside Mammootty and Mohanlal, the film features a stellar ensemble cast including Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Rajiv Menon, and Revathi in key roles.
The music and background score for the film are composed by Sushin Shyam, further adding to the film’s cinematic appeal.
Mammootty’s Upcoming Projects
Mammootty recently completed filming for Padayaatra, directed by the legendary Adoor Gopalakrishnan. The actor is also working on a project tentatively titled D55, starring Dhanush.
His upcoming lineup includes Mattancherry Mafia, a collaboration with director Nithish Sahadev, and another project backed by Cubes Entertainment, showcasing a diverse range of roles in the pipeline.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is gearing up for Drishyam 3, directed by Jeethu Joseph. The third installment of the blockbuster franchise is scheduled to release on May 21, 2026, coinciding with the actor’s 66th birthday.
He is currently shooting for L366 with director Tharun Moorthy and has multiple projects lined up with Priyadarshan and Vishnu Mohan. Additionally, Mohanlal will appear in cameo roles in several upcoming films, including Jailer 2, Khalifa: Part 1, Kathanar: The Wild Sorcerer, and Thudakkam.
