Ramayana - Ranbir Kapoor
Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor is taking the Indian cinematic experience to a global scale. While promoting director Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated magnum opus, Ramayana, in the United States this week, the actor shared groundbreaking updates regarding the film’s massive scale and production status.
During a high-profile interaction with Collider in Los Angeles, Kapoor revealed that the cinematic retelling of the ancient epic is designed as a two-part saga with a combined runtime of nearly six hours. This expansive duration is intended to capture the depth of the narrative, blending high-octane action with profound emotional storytelling.
Drawing parallels to global fantasy benchmarks, Kapoor stated:
“Ramayana is nothing less than ‘Lord of the Rings’. It’s our greatest epic spectacle coming from our country, and this [the teaser] was just a glimpse. We have six hours of epic visuals, action sequences, and emotions.”
The actor emphasized that the film delves into various layers of human values, exploring the themes of being a better son, husband, and brother, ultimately celebrating the triumph of good over evil. The scale of this project mirrors the trend of mega-blockbusters like the recent hit Dhurandhar, which utilized an extended runtime to do justice to its source material.
In a move that will surprise and thrill fans, Kapoor confirmed that the wait between the two installments might be shorter than expected. The actor revealed that filming for the sequel is already well underway.
“We are already done halfway filming Part 2, at least my portion,” Kapoor shared. He teased that the second chapter is “even more exciting” than the initial footage showcased in the global teaser, which recently introduced audiences to his portrayal of Lord Rama alongside glimpses of demons, giants, and mythical battlefields.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana is being hailed as one of the most expensive projects in Indian cinema history, with a reported budget of ₹4,000 crore.
The film features a powerhouse ensemble:
The first part of this mythological journey is slated to hit theaters worldwide during Diwali 2026. Fans won’t have to wait long for the conclusion, as Ramayana: Part 2 is currently scheduled for a Diwali 2027 release, promising a back-to-back holiday treat for moviegoers over the next two years.
