The Kerala Story 2 has witnessed a significant slowdown at the Indian box office on its 20th day. The film earned approximately ₹68 lakh on its third Wednesday, marking a sharp decline compared to ₹1.58 crore on day 19. This represents a drop of nearly 56.96%, indicating the impact of new competition in theatres.
The major reason behind this fall is the grand arrival of Dhurandhar 2, starring Ranveer Singh. With over 12,000 shows during its paid previews, the film has taken over a large portion of screens, especially in the Hindi market. As a result, The Kerala Story 2 saw a massive reduction in show count, directly affecting its daily collections.
After 20 days of theatrical run, The Kerala Story 2 has managed to collect an estimated ₹50.66 crore net at the Indian box office. In gross terms, this figure stands at around ₹59.77 crore. Despite a decent run so far, the film’s growth has slowed considerably due to reduced screen availability.
The release of Dhurandhar 2 has significantly impacted holdover films, and The Kerala Story 2 is no exception. With theatres prioritizing the new big-budget release, older films have lost screens and show timings. This shift has led to a steep fall in footfall and revenue for The Kerala Story 2, making further growth difficult.
The film was reportedly made on a budget of ₹28 crore. With current earnings of ₹50.66 crore, it has generated a return of ₹22.66 crore, resulting in an ROI of 80.92%. According to box office benchmarks, this places the film in the “Plus” category.
However, to achieve a “Hit” verdict, the film needs to cross ₹56 crore net, which requires an additional ₹5.34 crore. Given the current trend and reduced screen count, reaching this milestone appears challenging.
The Kerala Story 2 had a strong chance of emerging as a hit at the Indian box office, but the arrival of Dhurandhar 2 has disrupted its momentum. With collections dropping sharply and screens being reduced, the film is now likely to miss the hit verdict despite a profitable run.
