Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has created history at the Indian box office by registering the biggest opening day ever for a Bollywood film. The film has dethroned Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and set a new benchmark for Hindi cinema openings, taking Day 1 collections to an entirely new level.
Dhurandhar 2 collected approximately ₹73 crore net on its Thursday opening day in India. This figure excludes paid previews held on Wednesday evening, which added another ₹39 crore net.
When combined, the total reaches around ₹112 crore net, making it one of the biggest opening figures ever recorded for a Hindi film.
The standalone Thursday collection of ₹73 crore has officially surpassed Jawan’s previous record of ₹64.50 crore. This achievement puts Dhurandhar 2 at the top of the list of highest opening day collections in Bollywood.
The film’s massive scale, strong advance booking, and high screen count contributed significantly to this historic feat.
There is an ongoing discussion in the industry about whether paid previews should be included in opening day collections. Traditionally, Bollywood has reported preview collections separately, unlike South Indian films where previews are often included in Day 1 totals.
If previews are included, Dhurandhar 2’s opening day figure rises significantly. However, some argue that previews inflate numbers since they spread collections over more than one day.
The film benefited from an unusually high number of shows. Around 11,000 shows were screened during paid previews on Wednesday, followed by nearly 21,000 shows on Thursday.
This brings the total to approximately 32,000 shows, which is far higher than a typical single-day release. This extended screening window played a key role in boosting overall collections.

Dhurandhar 2’s record-breaking opening indicates a shift in Bollywood’s box office potential. With larger releases, aggressive advance bookings, and wider distribution, Hindi films are now competing strongly with pan-India and South Indian blockbusters.
